Work belonging to the Nocturn Matinal series, where Tàpies fully deploys his material and symbolic language. The composition is articulated on a wide central field in earthy tones, with a rough and organic appearance, evoking eroded walls, worn surfaces or marked by time, recurring elements in his plastic universe.

The horizontal lines delimit the space and function as essential, almost primitive signs. The gestural stains in the margins intensify the expressive and almost ritualistic character of the work. The whole transmits an austere and meditative atmosphere, where matter, sign and emptiness dialogue with a strong poetic charge.

Co-founder of the Dau al Set group in 1948, Antoni Tàpies began his public projection at the end of the 1940s, exhibiting in Barcelona and Madrid. After a stay in Paris in 1950, his career quickly took on an international dimension, with exhibitions in New York since 1953 and a continued presence in the main artistic centers of Europe, America and Asia. He is represented in the major museums of the world and his legacy has a fundamental axis in the Fundació Antoni Tàpies in Barcelona.
