After surviving cancer as a child, Bob Dobbie, aka Bob Dob, was forced to give up his dream of becoming a professional baseball player and his interest gravitated toward music and art. Growing up in Hermosa Beach, California, and playing in the punk band "Lunacy" for ten years, his exposure to the Los Angeles music scene had a major influence on his art. While focusing on music theory at a local college, Dob began taking drawing and painting classes. Eventually, his interest in art took hold and he transferred to Otis College of Art and Design in 1998, where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in illustration. His illustrated paintings showcased Dob's sardonic humor, highlighting pop culture icons, video game characters such as Mario/Luigi, beach culture stereotypes, historical references and Disney characters. In 2004, Dob exhibited for the first time at La Luz De Jesus Gallery in Hollywood, California. He has frequently participated in group and museum exhibitions in the United States and Europe, as well as a dozen solo exhibitions. Professionally, his work has appeared worldwide in advertising campaigns for Kraft Foods, AFLAC, Intel and Hurley, where Dob lent his most iconic characters to an artistic clothing line. His work has been collected by Ian McShane, Conan O'Brien, Nick Cassavetes, Rupert Grint and Kate Flannery.
