DESCRIPTION
JAUME PLENSA (Barcelona, 1955)
Untitled.1983.
Etching on paper, copy 8/12.
Signed and numbered in pencil.
Measurements: 20 x 14.5 cm (print); 50 x 35 cm (paper).
This etching belongs to Plensa's initial stage, characterized by an intense exploration of the human body as a symbolic territory. The figure appears frontal and open, almost dissected, showing organs and internal structures that merge with an organic and turbulent environment.
The stroke is incisive and material, with a strong presence of the acid bite and areas of great tonal density that generate an almost visceral atmosphere. The superimposed lines and graphics refer to an imagined anatomy, more symbolic than scientific, where the body becomes a container of energy, thought and memory.
Jaume Plensa has developed an extensive international career, with outstanding exhibitions such as the retrospective held at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in 2000.
He has received important awards, among them the National Prize of Plastic Arts of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Medal of Knight of Arts and Letters of the French Ministry of Culture. His work is part of important international collections and museums such as the MoMA in New York, the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid and the MACBA in Barcelona.
