Emblematic series in Dalí's graphic production, where the artist reinterprets the traditional theme of the deadly sins from his surrealist language, breaking the canon by introducing an enigmatic "eighth" sin. The figures, deformed and in constant mutation, embody the primal impulses through an imagery charged with irony, eroticism and psychological tension.
The incisive line of the etching, typical of his paranoiac-critical method, is combined with delicate chromatic interventions that intensify the hallucinatory character of the compositions, where ambiguous forms - skulls, bodies or fetishistic elements such as shoes - are transformed before the gaze.
Published in a limited and relatively short print run, the series is of special interest as it is preserved in its entirety, constituting a representative set of Dalí's graphic maturity and his ability to reinvent classic themes from a deeply personal vision.
Internationally acclaimed after the retrospective that the MOMA in New York dedicated to him in 1941, Joan Miró has won awards such as the Grand Prizes of the Venice Biennale and the Guggenheim Foundation, the Carnegie Prize for Painting, the Gold Medals of the Generalitat de Catalunya and Fine Arts, etc. His work can currently be seen at the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona, as well as in important museums around the world, such as the Thyssen-Bornemisza, the MOMA in New York, the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the National Gallery in Washington, the MNAM in Paris and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo.
