Not Banksy poses an ironic reflection on authorship, authenticity and the visual codes of urban art. The phrase "Ceci n'est pas un Banksy" reformulates in a parodic key the famous Magrittian statement, playing with the distance between image, signature and artistic legitimacy.

The work, conceived as a cut-out diptych, contrasts a child figure of stencil aesthetics with a graphic explosion accompanied by the text "Ka-Boom". Edited in the L-13 Light Industrial Workshop environment, it uses humor, appropriation and the appearance of a fake "Banksy" product to question the cult of the proper name and the commodification of street art.

Not Banksy is a graphic and satirical project linked to L-13 Light Industrial Workshop, a London-based space dedicated to publishing, graphics and counterculture. Initiated in 2007 by STOT21stCplanB, the project is articulated from parody, appropriation and criticism of the art system.
