Not Banksy revisits the figure of the chimpanzee as a vehicle for social satire and uncomfortable commentary. The character, wearing a mask and aluminum foil hat, carries the message "It's Not Funny", a phrase that functions as a warning, mockery and declaration of principles within the ironic universe of the project. The image plays with the idea of contemporary paranoia, media spectacle and icon consumption, turning an apparently absurd figure into a scathing critique of credulity, fear and the commodification of protest.

Not Banksy is a graphic and satirical project linked to L-13 Light Industrial Workshop, a London-based space dedicated to publishing, graphics and counterculture. Initiated in 2007 by STOT21stCplanB, the project is articulated from the appropriation, parody and criticism of the art system.
