This work reflects Lucio Muñoz’s characteristic visual language, defined by intense textures and a solid geometric construction of volume—recurring elements in his works on paper. Considered one of the key figures of Spanish abstraction in the 1950s, Muñoz developed an artistic career of great significance within the contemporary art scene in Spain.
Muñoz trained at the San Fernando Academy and, after early contact with the Madrid realists, evolved toward Informalism after studying in Paris. His style, marked by a material and expressionist approach to painting, is characterized by direct interventions on the support and a lyrical approach. Throughout his career, he exhibited internationally, and his work transitioned from an experimental and colorful phase to a more subdued and monochromatic one. Beginning in the late 1960s, he adopted a more fantastical tone, and after 1981, his artistic language became flatter and lighter.
