Joaquín Capa began his artistic training at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid. After completing his studies in 1972, he decided to move to Paris for a year to further his training and develop his skills in printmaking. In 1983, he returned to Madrid, where he received a grant from the Ministry of Culture to conduct research on printmaking techniques. Following this period, he studied philosophy in Rome and Madrid, architecture in Madrid, and the sociology of art in Paris. He received grants from the March Foundation and the Ministry of Culture. He won the Prize at the First International Bhopal Biennial in India, a place with which he maintains a connection due to his work as a visiting professor at the University of Baroda in 1983, 1989, and 1990. Throughout his artistic career, he has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions held at major art venues, including the Seiquer Gallery, Madrid (1976); the Cellini Gallery and the Estampa Gallery, Madrid (1979); the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts, Santander, in 1980; the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts, Santander, in 1983; the Botín Foundation, Santander, in 1987; the Tórculo Gallery, Madrid, in 1988; the Lluc Fluxá Gallery, Palma de Mallorca, 1989; the Tórculo Gallery, Madrid, 1990; and the Bat Gallery, Madrid, 1992. He also exhibited his work in Burgos, Málaga, Valencia, Seville, Vitoria, Ciudad Real, and Valladolid, as well as in Utrecht and Maastricht (Netherlands). In various museums, including: the Museo Abstracto in Cuenca, the Reina Sofía Art Center in Madrid, the Municipal Museum of Fine Arts in Santander, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon.
