Poster for “Bread, Love, and...” (Pane, amore e..., 1955), a romantic comedy directed by Dino Risi and starring Sophia Loren and Vittorio De Sica, two of the leading figures of postwar Italian cinema. The film is part of the popular *Bread, Love, and...* series, which began in 1953 and combined humor, local color, and romance through the romantic adventures of the character played by De Sica.
Released at the height of the golden age of Italian comedy, *Bread, Love, and...* cemented the series’ enormous international success and confirmed the popularity of its stars. The film was acclaimed for its lighthearted and elegant tone, as well as for its ability to sympathetically portray the customs and social relationships of mid-20th-century Italy.
