A set consisting of two publications resulting from the collaboration between Joan Brossa and Antoni Tàpies, two key figures of the postwar Catalan avant-garde. In both works, word and image are articulated through a shared experimental impulse: Brossa’s poetry—direct, object-oriented, and rich in semantic shifts—engages in dialogue with Tàpies’s visual writing, which is based on the sign, matter, the imprint, and the tension between gesture and silence.
“U no és ningú” brings together Brossa’s prose and poems with Tàpies’s drawings, lithographs, and etchings. This copy, no. 920, is part of the standard edition numbered from 576 to 1575, in paperback and signed by both authors. “Nocturn matinal,” also published by Polígrafa, includes lithographs by Antoni Tàpies and is part of a print run of 1,130 copies; this copy, No. 265, is likewise signed by Brossa and Tàpies.
These publications bear witness to one of the most fruitful creative partnerships in contemporary Catalan art, in which the book ceases to be a mere publishing medium and becomes a space for artistic intervention.
Antoni Tàpies is represented in institutions such as the Fundació Antoni Tàpies in Barcelona, MoMA in New York, the Tate in London, and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Joan Brossa, a poet, playwright, and visual artist, has a significant institutional presence, notably at the MACBA in Barcelona and the Fundació Joan Brossa, which is dedicated to the preservation and promotion of his legacy.
