DESCRIPTION
JOAN MIRÓ (Barcelona, 1893 – Palma de Mallorca, 1983).
“Osaka.”
Lithograph on paper. H.C. copy.
Signed and inscribed in pencil.
Measurements: 76 x 57 cm.
In “Osaka,” Joan Miró presents a composition of great visual power, dominated by the contrast between broad masses of primary color and a bold, free, and expansive black line. The word “Miró,” integrated into the center of the image, does not function as a simple signature or inscription, but rather as a visual element: writing, sign, and form merge into a single graphic energy.
The lithograph encapsulates some of the most recognizable features of his mature artistic language: intense red, blue, green, and yellow are interwoven with astral symbols, dots, curves, and organic structures that evoke his cosmic and poetic universe. The large red and black circle at the top serves as the focal point, while the lower forms balance the composition with an almost playful vitality.
Joan Miró was one of the key figures in 20th-century art. His artistic language—close to Surrealism yet deeply personal—revolutionized painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, and printmaking through a vocabulary of essential signs, colors, and forms. His work is represented in institutions such as the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, the Fundació Pilar i Joan Miró in Mallorca, the Reina Sofía Museum, MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Tate in London.
