DESCRIPTION

JOAN MIRÓ (Barcelona, 1893 – Palma de Mallorca, 1983).
“Album 19,” 1961.
Lithograph on paper.
Signed and inscribed in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 60 x 47 cm; 76 x 63.5 cm (frame).

A lithograph by Joan Miró dated 1961, linked to the artist’s graphic universe during the years of full maturity of his artistic language. Against a light background, Miró creates a composition of great chromatic intensity using expansive patches of red, blue, green, black, and yellow, combined with linear marks, circular forms, and seemingly spontaneous graphic elements.

The work brings together several characteristic features of Miró’s artistic vocabulary: black as a gestural structure, primary colors applied freely, astral motifs, and biomorphic forms that oscillate between writing, figuration, and symbolism. The result preserves the immediate energy of the drawing and painting, transferred to the medium of lithography with remarkable expressive power.

Of particular interest are the handwritten dedication and signature, which lend the work added value in terms of its documentary and collectible significance.

Joan Miró is one of the key figures in 20th-century art. Associated with Surrealism since the 1920s, he developed his own artistic language based on signs, splashes of color, constellations, and organic rhythms. His work is held in institutions such as the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Tate in London.
