Against a gray background, Miró creates the figure of a cat with a broad black stroke, accompanied by the imprint of a hand and brightly colored shapes. Blue, red, yellow, and green enliven the composition and are hallmarks of the boldness of the dark masses. The freedom of the gesture, the simplification of forms, and the symbolic use of color encapsulate the visual language developed by Miró during his mature years.

Joan Miró was one of the leading figures in 20th-century art. Associated with Surrealism since the 1920s, he created his own language based on signs, constellations, organic forms, and poetic rhythms. His work is represented in institutions such as the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona, MoMA in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Tate in London.
