DESCRIPTION

EDUARDO CHILLIDA (San Sebastián, 1924–2002).
“El vestit del vent (A peu pel llibre IV),” 1996.
Offset print on 250 g Munken paper, copy 293/300
Signed and numbered in pencil.
Published and printed by Ediciones Polígrafa, Barcelona, 1996.
Measurements: 32 × 24 cm.

The work is part of the Brossa and Chillida publishing project “A peu pel llibre,” conceived as a dialogue between the poems of Joan Brossa and the images of Eduardo Chillida. The composition concentrates black signs, textures, and geometric forms in a small central area, granting the empty space an essential role. The work reflects Chillida’s interest in immaterial concepts such as air, the boundary, and space.

The composition combines a central field of irregular texture with bold black geometric elements, establishing a dialogue between matter, emptiness, and boundaries. The concentration of the image in a small area of the paper gives special prominence to the white space, one of the foundations of Chillida’s graphic and sculptural language.

The print is part of a publishing project in which the artist’s images engage in a dialogue with the direct and experimental poetry of Joan Brossa. Each piece retains its autonomy, but text and image share a reflection on the sign, space, and the expressive capacity of essential elements.

The print run specification clarifies that this copy belongs to the facsimile edition of 300, and therefore should not be classified as an original, hand-signed etching. The deluxe edition, consisting of 75 copies, did include the original etchings signed by Chillida.

Eduardo Chillida was a pivotal figure in 20th-century Spanish sculpture. His work explored the relationships between matter, space, and void, both in monumental sculptures and in drawings and prints. He received the International Sculpture Prize at the Venice Biennale and the Praemium Imperiale; his legacy is preserved and exhibited at Chillida Leku, a museum that opened in 2000.
