The work depicts an airplane reduced to an essential, almost calligraphic structure, suspended against a background of earthy tones. Airplanes, zeppelins, and submarines are recurring motifs in Riera i Aragó’s body of work. The artist transforms these machines into poetic and timeless objects, detached from their technological function and linked to ideas such as travel, memory, and the desire to fly. The formal austerity of this print reinforces its evocative and dreamlike quality.
Josep Maria Riera i Aragó studied Fine Arts in Barcelona and has developed his career in painting, sculpture, and printmaking. His distinctive universe of machines and artifacts is represented in collections such as those of the MACBA, the Fundació Joan Miró, the Musée Réattu in Arles, and the Musée d’Art Moderne in Luxembourg.
