In “Himalaya,” Richter depicts a mountainous landscape using a restrained palette of whites, grays, and blacks. The simplification of forms and the strong contrast between light and shadow bring the photographic image closer to abstraction, reflecting his ongoing exploration of the boundaries between reality and representation.
Gerhard Richter is one of the leading figures in contemporary German art. His body of work alternates between photographic figuration, landscape, and abstraction, avoiding confinement to a single style. His work has been the focus of major retrospectives and is included in leading international museum collections.
