Jean Giraud, known internationally under the pseudonyms Moebius and Gir, was one of the most influential artists in 20th-century comics and illustration. As an artist, writer, and designer, he revolutionized the language of comics with a style characterized by extraordinary graphic freedom, visual imagination, and narrative richness, becoming a key figure in contemporary European comics. Trained at the École Supérieure des Arts Appliqués Duperré in Paris, he began his career in the 1950s creating illustrations and contributing to magazines. Under the name Gir, he gained recognition in the Western comic genre with the series *Blueberry*, created alongside writer Jean-Michel Charlier in 1963, which is considered one of the genre’s great masterpieces. In the late 1960s, he began signing his work as Moebius, developing a completely different creative universe marked by science fiction, fantasy, and the exploration of new visual languages. Together with other creators, he founded the magazine *Métal Hurlant* in 1975, a publication that was instrumental in the renewal of adult comics and the spread of graphic science fiction. His works *Arzach*, *L’Incal*, and *Le Garage Hermétique* are considered essential pieces of modern comics.
His influence extended beyond the world of comics, reaching into film and conceptual design. He contributed to film projects such as *Alien*, *Tron*, *The Abyss*, and *The Fifth Element*, providing character designs, settings, and imaginary worlds that profoundly influenced the aesthetics of contemporary science fiction.
