The composition, dominated by a large red circle suspended against a luminous yellow background and contrasted with a series of black geometric shapes at the bottom, synthesizes with extraordinary clarity the essential elements of his visual vocabulary: the power of color, the balance between geometry and gesture, and the pursuit of intense spatial tension. Although internationally recognized for his painting, printmaking occupied a place of special significance in Feito’s career. Far from viewing it as a secondary practice, the artist found in lithography and engraving an ideal medium for deepening his explorations of form, color, and material, applying to these media the same aesthetic standards and compositional rigor that characterize his paintings. His prints, generally produced in small, carefully supervised editions, constitute a fundamental chapter in his body of work and contributed decisively to the international dissemination of his art.
Luis Feito was one of the leading figures of Spanish abstraction and a founding member of the El Paso group. After training in Madrid, he settled in Paris in 1956, where he came into contact with the international avant-garde and developed an abstract language characterized by the intensity of color—especially red—and the simplification of forms. Throughout his career, he exhibited in major cities across Europe, the Americas, and Asia; received numerous awards; and his work is included in the collections of prominent international museums, such as MoMA in New York, the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, and the Guggenheim.
