Created in 1970, “Colère de violon XII” belongs to one of Arman’s most iconic series, the “Colères,” in which the artist explored the relationship between destruction and creation through the fragmentation of everyday objects. By breaking apart and reassembling the violin—a traditional symbol of harmony and artistic expression—Arman transforms a functional object into a new composition rich in meaning, questioning its value, memory, and permanence.

A key figure in New Realism, Arman developed a visual language based on the accumulation and decontextualization of objects as a critical reflection on consumer society. His work, featured in institutions such as the Reina Sofía Museum, MoMA, the Tate Modern, and the Centre Pompidou, established him as one of the most influential French artists of the second half of the 20th century.
