Published in 1949, this stencil reproduces a composition fully rooted in Miró’s artistic universe, articulated through organic forms, symbols, and large swaths of pure color. The pochoir technique, based on the application of color using stencils, effectively conveys the sharpness and chromatic flatness characteristic of his artistic language.

The print was part of the monograph on Miró by Juan Eduardo Cirlot, an early Spanish publication on the artist sponsored by Ediciones Cobalto in the postwar period. The edition included two color reproductions created using the pochoir technique by J. Mateu, a fact that allows for a precise contextualization of the nature of this copy.

Joan Miró was one of the leading figures of the 20th-century avant-garde. During the 1940s, he definitively established his international reputation, especially following the retrospective that New York’s MoMA dedicated to him in 1941, while at the same time intensifying his interest in graphic techniques. The 1949 publication was released precisely during this period of growing recognition and dissemination of his work.
