Set of four silkscreen prints on paper, created around 1995, part of Julio Le Parc’s graphic explorations of movement, color, and visual perception. The series brings together the compositions *Surface (Rotation de carrés)*, *Surface Couleur*, *Mirror*, and *Alchimie*—four different approaches to the same principle: transforming the two-dimensional surface into a dynamic and ever-changing space.Through the repetition of geometric shapes, chromatic variations, reflections, and modular structures, Le Parc succeeds in creating sensations of vibration, depth, and movement. The viewer ceases to be a passive observer, as the optical effect changes depending on the viewpoint and the movement of the gaze. These works are representative of the research the artist conducted in the 1950s and 1960s, which established him as a key figure in international kinetic and optical art.
Julio Le Parc studied at the School of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires and, in 1958, moved to Paris on a scholarship, where he spent much of his career. That same year, together with other artists, he founded the Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel (GRAV), a collective that played a decisive role in the renewal of optical and kinetic art.His work focuses on light, movement, color, and viewer participation, using geometric structures and optical effects that challenge the traditional perception of painting. In 1966, he received the Grand Prize for Painting at the Venice Biennale, an honor that cemented his international prestige. Since then, he has exhibited at major institutions and museums in Europe, the Americas, and Asia, and his work is part of important international collections, including those of MoMA in New York, the Tate Modern in London, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires. His career establishes him as one of the leading figures in Latin American and international kinetic and optical art.
