On an indeterminate dark background the image of Mary stands out. The Virgin appears touched with a very simple veil of clear tonality, that almost hides her hair completely. Represented very young, she bows her head, lowering her gaze and thus highlighting the virtue of humility. The fineness of her features and the beauty of her proportions stand out, and are further emphasized thanks to the white spotlight that focuses on one side of Mary's face. The quality of the fabrics she wears can be appreciated in the folds of the same, fine, very marked and with a lot of shadow, and with it we have wanted to show an air of richness that is very attenuated by the general simplicity of the painting. The Virgin's face also shows a shadow of sadness, accentuated by these clothes, which relates this work, in which the Child is absent, to the suffering of Jesus on the Cross. The art of the 17th century likes to represent feelings, and, in this case, it has managed to show a child, Mary, humble and totally submissive to God's will. Formally it can be related to the painting of Bayeu or Mengs, that is to say, with the aesthetic models established in 18th century Spain.
