In this canvas Jean Baptiste Lallemand offers us an excellent and meticulous fluvial landscape with a scenographic composition captured from a high point of view that allows a detailed vision of the different planes. They follow one another in depth, marking a dynamic zigzag that avoids compositional monotony, and they alternate light and shadow in a very effective way, following the scenographic conception of nature. A golden light floods the scene, highlighting especially the reflection in the waterfall.
Jean Baptiste Lallemand was a painter dedicated mainly to painting and drawing landscapes and genre works. After a stay in Italy, he traveled to Paris and became a member of the Academy of Saint-Luc. His work is currently preserved in the Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon, in the Carnavalet Museum and in the Cabinet of Prints of the National Library, both in Paris.
