BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Follower of CARLO MARATTA (Camerano, 1625- Rome, 1713)
Italian school of the late eighteenth century.
"Madonna and Child".
Oil on canvas.
Frame of the nineteenth century.
Measurements: 55 x 42 cm; 64 x 49 x 6 cm (frame).
Devotional painting with the Virgin Mary and the Child Jesus. The Child, of volumetric body, raises his right arm and advances the left leg, which prints a dynamism characteristic of the eighteenth-century painting. A soft chiaroscuro models his naked body. The Virgin, wrapped in a blue mantle (symbol of purity) has an idealized and serene face. The work follows models of Carlo Maratta. There are several versions of "Madonnas" by Maratta, some of which are part of the Vatican Museum.
