Measurements: 26 x 21 cm.
In this painting, belonging to the Flemish school of the early seventeenth century, the artist shows us a scene of intimate character starring the Virgin, whose sweet face and gentle gaze lean tenderly towards the sleeping child. The neutral background, devoid of narrative or landscape elements, intensifies the emotional concentration of the image and allows both figures to emerge clearly, without distractions.
An outstanding example of the Flemish tradition, the work masterfully combines the technical precision and spiritual sensitivity that characterize this school. Executed in oil on panel, a support highly appreciated by the masters of the time, it shows an extraordinary delicacy in the modeling, as well as a meticulous finish that evidences the influence of sculpture in the painting of the time.
