"Ecce Homo.
Oil on canvas.
Measurements: 63 x 48 cm; 77 x 63 cm (frame).
This devotional canvas deals with the Ecce Homo, one of the most powerful and recognizable themes of Baroque painting. With a direct and refined composition, the artist concentrates all the attention on Christ's face, eliminating any narrative distraction to intensify its emotional charge. The result is an image conceived to deeply move the viewer and encourage contemplation, in full harmony with the religious sensibility of the Catholic Baroque.
The scene belongs to the cycle of the Passion and represents the moment when Jesus, already crowned with thorns and dressed in the purple tunic, is mocked by the soldiers.
From the formal point of view, the work seduces for its powerful treatment of light: an intense spotlight illuminates the figure of Christ and models the face with sharp hallmarks of chiaroscuro, while the neutral background enhances his physical and spiritual presence. The chromatic palette, warm and refined, is based on a restrained range of ochers, earths and carmines, which provides depth, sobriety and an intense sensation of truth.
