It is a coastal urban view, made in oil on canvas, attributable to the Neapolitan Italian school, dated in the eighteenth century. The work is part of the veduta genre, characteristic of Italian painting of the eighteenth century, and reveals the direct influence of Canaletto, especially in the spatial conception and atmospheric treatment of the landscape, so it can be considered the work of a follower of the Venetian master.
The composition represents a panoramic view of the seafront of Naples, with monumental buildings arranged along the bay, among which we can recognize architectural models linked to the Palazzo Donn'Anna, one of the most represented landscape references in Neapolitan painting of the period. The space is organized by means of a wide and balanced perspective, with a low horizon and a careful chromatic gradation that provides depth.
The scene is enlivened with small boats and schematic figures, which add scale and vitality without detracting from the architecture. The coloring is soft and luminous, dominated by light blues and ochers, with a restrained and descriptive brushstroke, more attentive to visual fidelity than to subjective expression. The work thus responds to the illustrated taste for topographical views and the interest in the city as a monumental and scenic setting.
