In this work we can appreciate a wide landscape built on a solid structure, skillfully resolved through the balance between diagonals and horizontals, accentuated by the play of light that consolidate the spatial depth. Figures appear carrying out different playful activities or working. The composition, together with the treatment of the treetops and other formal details, links the work to the tradition of the Flemish school.
During the first half of the 17th century, Flemish painters discovered the Italian landscape, especially that of Claude Lorrain and Nicolas Poussin, and were attracted by its lights of golden and pink tones that dominate the horizon, generating a delicate, blurred atmosphere of great lyricism. From this influence arose a type of landscape different from that of the Dutch school, less realistic and more idealized, following classical principles.
