Measurements: 53 x 55 cm, 82,5 x 84,5 cm (frame).
This painting, belonging to the Dutch or Flemish school of the XIX century, represents a scene of gender starring two children in expressive and carefree attitude. In the center of the composition, one of them appears singing or shouting with his mouth open while holding a stick topped with an object, while the other, next to him, smiles with a complicit gesture. The scene is constructed as a study of children's expressions and emotions, full of vivacity and spontaneity, typical of the baroque tradition of Northern Europe.
The composition is closed and intimate, with the figures occupying almost all of the space and silhouetted against a dark background that reinforces their prominence. The directed lighting highlights the faces and hands, creating a strong light contrast that accentuates the volume and expressiveness. The palette, dominated by warm, ochre, brown and reddish tones, contributes to the dense and enveloping atmosphere. The brushstroke is loose and material, with a direct treatment that prioritizes the capture of gesture over minute detail.
This type of representation is linked to the Baroque genre painting developed in the Netherlands, in the orbit of artists such as Frans Hals or Adriaen Brouwer, who explored everyday scenes and character studies with great expressive freedom. These works were not only anecdotal in character, but could also contain moral readings or allusions to human behavior.
