DESCRIPTION
French School, XVIII century
"Pastoral scene".
Oil on canvas.
Measurements: 78 x 108 cm.
Delicate gallant scene inscribed in the French rococo tradition, where the painting becomes a vehicle of elegance, love game and courtly refinement. The composition is articulated around three figures interacting in an idealized landscape, accompanied by a waterfall and a softly blurred vegetation that frames the scene.
The light brushstrokes and the vaporous atmosphere refer to models close to Watteau or Boucher, with special attention to the treatment of the fabrics, the flesh tones and the restrained theatricality of the gestures. The presence of water - both in the waterfall and in the watering can - introduces a symbolic reading linked to fertility, courtship and the passage of time.
This work is representative of rococo sensibility, where nature and figure merge in an idealized and hedonistic vision of aristocratic life.
