In this painting two thematic levels are harmonized. On the one hand, Santa Genoveva is represented in an attitude of recollection, accompanied by an angel and a cherub; on the other hand, in the background a war scene is developed that introduces a strong dramatic contrast. This duality allows us to understand the intercessory role of the saint, whose presence is associated with the resolution of the conflict represented in the distance. One of the most significant elements is the small cherub blowing, a symbolic gesture that announces a change of course in the battle, interpreted as the effect of divine intervention. In the lower central area there is a reduced still life composed of a book, some keys and a skein of thread. These objects are not secondary accessories, but fundamental iconographic attributes that allow us to identify the protagonist as Saint Geneviève, who also holds the traditional candle, symbol of spiritual vigilance and protection of the city.
The quality of the 17th century French school is evident here in the compositional clarity and in the hierarchy of the planes. The scene is carefully structured to guide the viewer's gaze from the symbolic elements in the foreground to the historical narrative in the background. This visual order responds to the principles of French classicism, where reason, measurements and harmony are essential. The style is linked to the academic tradition represented by the great French painting of the time, characterized by elegance of drawing, expressive restraint and precision in visual narrative. These qualities reflect the ideals promoted in the artistic environment of the court of Louis XIV, where painting should combine decorative function, moral clarity and exaltation of historical and religious values. The French school of the seventeenth century, lived a moment in which painting reached a high degree of technical and intellectual refinement, characterized by classical balance, narrative clarity and integration between history, religion and allegory, features that are evident in this work. This school stands out for its ability to build ordered compositions, of great visual coherence, where each element fulfills a symbolic function within the whole.
