Spanish or Flemish school, following models of FRANS SNYDERS, XIX century.
"Still life".
Oil on canvas. Glued to board.

Still life of the 19th century whose aesthetic is a clear heir of the baroque. The dimensions and the format of the work itself indicate that it was originally part of an architectural ornamental set. In terms of aesthetics it follows models of the famous Frans Snyders, Flemish painter and draughtsman who quickly reached the rank of master and specialized in painting hunting themes. In his works the drama and tension are very important, as it is common for him to represent hunting scenes with great violence and ferocity. However, the anatomical representation of the animals in the present painting is not very accomplished (while in Snyders' work it is quite meticulous), which is especially evident in the less confident brushwork. This characteristic makes us link him to a possible student of the work of his disciple Paul de Vos, an animalist painter who offered crude scenes with more rapid than detailed brushstrokes.
