BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

LOUIS GALLIAC (Dijon, France, 1849-1934).
"Interior with photographer or restorer next to a lady".
Oil on canvas.
Signed on the lower left.
Measurements: 75 x 65 cm; 102 x 89 cm (frame).

In this interior painting, the bold handling of the warm lights and the realistic description of each detail is noticeable. It shows a picture restorer dipping a pen in an aqueous solution. His wife leans over the table, attentive to her husband's work. Every detail of the bourgeois interior, especially the hanging paintings, has been carefully described.

The woman, still undressed, wears the deshabillé, light fabrics that have been worked in their delicate textures and qualities, according to the academicist style of the late nineteenth century.

The brushstroke is controlled, precise, typical of the academic school. The texture is smooth, the tonal transitions are careful, reflecting Galliac's classical training.

Louis Galliac was a French painter. He was a disciple of Alexandre Cabanel and Léon Bonnat. He exhibited at the Salon from 1869.nIn 1894, he won a first class medal. Among the distinctions he received, it is also worth mentioning that of Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur (1902).
