This painting, resolved with a palette of luminist accents, is a version of the oil painting Sea View in Scheveningen, executed by Frederik Hendrik Kaemmerer in 1890. The scene takes place on the beach of Scheveningen, a picturesque seaside resort in the Netherlands, famous at the time as a summer resort for high society. The composition displays a lively tableau of elegantly dressed figures enjoying the sea breeze under a clear sky. Among ladies with parasols, gentlemen and children, the presence of popular characters is recognized, such as the peasant woman offering her products, recalling the melting pot of classes found in these seaside resorts. The loose brushstroke and vibrant light convey the atmosphere of leisure, refinement and social effervescence characteristic of the period, while the painter's gaze captures the moment with an air of delicate genre realism.
Frederik Hendrik Kaemmerer was a Dutch painter. Kaemmerer studied art in Paris where he was a pupil of Jean-Léon Gérôme. He painted the Wedding Hall for the City Hall of the 20th arrondissement of Paris. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1870. He won a silver medal at the Paris Universal Exposition of 1889 and the Legion of Honor the same year.
