VINCENZO IROLLI (Naples, 1860-1949).
"Portrait of a young woman".

Vincenzo Irolli entered the Institute of Fine Arts in Naples in 1877, where he was a disciple, among others, of Gioacchino Toma, and graduated three years later. From 1879 he regularly presented works at the exhibitions of the Società Promotrice di Belle Arti in Naples, consisting of portraits and genre scenes.
In 1884 he participated in the Turin exhibition with Amore e dovere and Le Maddalene d'oggi; already in 1880 he had exhibited in Milan, and in 1887 in Venice he presented numerous drawings taken from life.
In 1890 he became a member of the Circolo Artistico Napoletano, and towards the end of that decade he collaborated with Vincenzo Migliaro and other local artists in the decoration of the Caffè Gambrinus. He was a regular participant in major national competitions, and also exhibited at the Paris Salon, where he won great recognition, as well as at international shows such as those in London (1904), Munich (1909) and Barcelona (1911), where he received a bronze medal.
His production includes intense representations of maternity, children's portraits and daily scenes of great chromatic vivacity, to which are added religious themes, such as the ten works presented at the Mostra di Arte Sacra held in Naples in 1936.
