The painting represents a lake landscape of idyllic character. In the water, a cows water, while a fisherman settles on a rock. In the foreground, the scene takes on a gallant air: a young woman, seated on a stump, receives from a knight with a bicorn and a cane what seems to be a flower. Beyond, the landscape opens up in soft green and ochre tones, revealing a mansion with a crenellated tower that dominates the middle ground. In the distance, on the top of a hill, the silhouette of a small fortification can be distinguished, which balances the composition and reinforces the feeling of spaciousness. The work combines rural and architectural elements with the delicacy of genre painting. In it, the bucolic pastoral environment serves as a setting for the gallant anecdote, a motif inherited from the rococo.
