BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
JEF VAN DE FACKERE (Belgium, 1879-1946)
"Male portrait".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 72 x 51 cm; 88 x 67 cm (frame).
Portrait of deep psychological capture. The character, of advanced age, is cut in the foreground in front of an open field in whose background we observe the limit of a cemetery. This places the figure, dressed in rigorous black, in an environment of mourning.
The Belgian artist Jef Van de Fackere is known mainly for his portraits, figures and still lifes in oil and watercolor. Born in Bruges, he studied at the city's Academy of Fine Arts under Pierre Raoux and Edmond Van Hove. His works are preserved in numerous public collections. Exhibitions: Cercle Artistique Brugeois (between 1904 and 1926), St. Saviour's Gallery, Bruges. Memberships: full member of the Royal Society of British Artists and associate member of the Royal Watercolour Society. Public Collections: Groeningemuseum, Bruges, Mu.ZEE, Ostend. Member of the Academy of Fine Arts of Bruges.
