Sebastià Junyer was a multifaceted man, and he dedicated himself to the business world as well as to painting, both to his practice and to collecting. He studied at the Trias Academy in Barcelona and collaborated with the well-known Sala Parés in Barcelona, which allowed him to be in contact with the artistic world of the city. He was also a regular visitor to the Taberna Els Quatre Gats, frequented, among others, by Picasso, where he would become acquainted with the most radical artistic avant-garde. He devoted himself mainly to landscapes, often painting the surroundings of the city of Barcelona, although he also traveled to the Balearic Islands, where he captured the view we present here. It is a wide panoramic view of a cliff, reflected with a technique that drinks from the impressionist and post-impressionist contributions in the interest for the atmosphere, for the intense Mediterranean luminosity and for the color. The brushstroke is applied in small touches that do not blend together, but overlap, generating a vibrant and dynamic surface that accurately evokes the interior of a Balearic coastal cave.
