DESCRIPTION
French school of the 19th century.
"Landscape".
Oil on canvas.
Apocryphal signature.
Measurements: 40 x 32 cm, 61,5 x 53 cm (frame).
Landscape of horizontal composition representing a lush natural environment, dominated by a dense mass of trees that opens towards a watercourse in the foreground. Moss-covered rocks partially emerge from the water, acting as a structuring element of the space. In the background, a softly modeled mountain formation rises, enveloped in a luminous and diffuse atmosphere.
The chromatic palette is composed mainly of deep greens, ochers and warm earths, contrasted with light blues and soft grays in the sky. The brushstroke is loose but controlled, with special attention to the effects of light and the representation of vegetation, which gives the scene a naturalistic and serene character.
The work is part of the French landscape tradition of the 19th century, close to the postulates of the Barbizon School, characterized by the direct observation of nature and the abandonment of the idealized academic landscape. The atmospheric treatment, the absence of human figures and the interest in the silent life of the natural environment refer to artists such as Théodore Rousseau, Narcisse Díaz de la Peña or Jules Dupré, without being directly attributed to any of them.
