This delicate composition fully reflects Tamburini's modernist sensibility in its most lyrical and symbolist aspect. The figure, with a melancholic gesture, is integrated in a landscape treated with loose and vibrant brushstrokes, where nature acquires an evocative rather than descriptive role. The soft palette, dominated by greens and pearly tones, envelop the scene in a poetic atmosphere that refers to Pre-Raphaelite influences and the search for idealization typical of the end of the century.

The subtlety in the treatment of the flesh tones and the elegance of the drawing place the work within the artist's most refined production, in which the female figure becomes a symbol of introspection, in harmonious dialogue with the landscape.

Josep Maria Tamburini was an outstanding painter and art critic of Catalan modernism. He began his career in history painting and anecdotal realism, evolving towards a symbolist language influenced by Pre-Raphaelism. He achieved recognition in 1888 with a medal at the Universal Exhibition in Barcelona and won other awards in 1898 and 1911. He was a professor at La Lonja, a member of the Board of Museums of Barcelona and co-founder of the Artistic and Literary Society of Catalonia. His work is preserved in institutions such as the MNAC.
