DESCRIPTION
JULIUS PAULSEN (Denmark, 1860-1940).
"Female nude".
Oil on canvas.
Signed with initials.
In good general condition according to the age.
Measurements: 52 x 38,5 cm; 66 x 53 cm (with frame).
This female nude reflects the intimate sensibility of Scandinavian painting of the end of the century. The figure, collected on herself, transmits an atmosphere of introspection reinforced by a soft and enveloping light.
Paulsen uses a loose and nuanced brushstroke, with a range of warm tones that delicately model the body, diluting the contours in a barely suggested background. The work is situated between late naturalism and a sensibility close to post-impressionism.
Trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, where he was also a professor, Julius Paulsen was a leading figure in Danish art. Recognized with the Eckersberg Medal and the Thorvaldsen Medal, his work is preserved in institutions such as the Statens Museum for Kunst.
