BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

VICTOR WEHRLE ANFRUNS (Active mid-19th century).
"Coastal landscape".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower left corner.
Measurements: 39 x 50 cm; 60 x 71 cm (frame).
Coastal landscape of great atmospheric subtlety and poetic sensitivity. The scene shows a path that crosses the coastal vegetation and leads to the sea, while a solitary figure advances silently under a wide and luminous sky. The light blue, gray and pink tones create a changing and delicate atmosphere, evoking the light effects of dawn or dusk. This attention to atmospheric variations brings the work closer to the romantic and pre-impressionist sensibility, where the landscape ceases to be a mere background and becomes a vehicle for emotion and contemplation.
The human figure, small against the immensity of the environment, reinforces the romantic idea of the relationship between the individual and nature. It is not a psychological portrait, but a compositional device intended to emphasize the scale of the landscape and the intimate experience of walking by the sea. The path also acts as a line of depth, guiding the viewer's gaze towards the luminous horizon.
