Marià Pidelaserra was one of the most innovative painters in early 20th-century Catalonia and a leading figure in the transition from Modernism to the early avant-garde movements. Trained at the Llotja School in Barcelona and later in Paris, where he came into contact with Post-Impressionist and Fauvist movements, he was one of the first Spanish artists to incorporate a modern conception of color and a free, vibrant brushstroke. He focused primarily on landscapes, portraits, and interior scenes, developing a visual language characterized by great sensitivity to light and color that evolved from naturalism toward an increasingly synthetic and expressive style of painting. He exhibited in Barcelona’s leading galleries and participated in the National Fine Arts Exhibitions, establishing himself as a key figure in the Catalan pictorial renewal of the first third of the 20th century. His work is held in major public collections, including the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC), the Museu d’Art de Sabadell, and the Museu de Montserrat, which recognize his contribution to the development of modern painting in Catalonia.
