Sebastián Junyent trained at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, specializing in genre and landscape painting, while also cultivating the art of tapestry, primarily during his early years. A close friend of Pablo Picasso, with whom he shared his artistic interests, around 1900 he published several articles on aesthetic topics in the magazine “Joventut,” one of the leading publications of the Modernist movement in Catalonia. Throughout his career, he held various solo exhibitions and participated in art competitions and shows such as the 1899 National Fine Arts Exhibition, where he exhibited his painting “Ex voto,” and the Barcelona Exhibitions of 1894, 1896, and 1898, among others. Among his works, the following are particularly noteworthy, all of which were presented in official exhibitions: “A Proclamation in a Village in the Montseny” (1894), “Matinada” (1896), “Once Upon a Time There Was a King” (1898), “Prometença,” “Clorosi,” “Mater dolorosa” (1904), “Hunter,” “Bosquet de Vallvidrera” (1904), “Study Head,” and “Annunciation” (1901), among others.
