LEOPOLDO FERNÁNDEZ VARELA (1929 - 2007).
"Landscape".

Measurements: 50 x 65 cm; 66 x 81,5 cm (frame).
Leopoldo Fernandez was initially dedicated to the industry, but his passion for art would soon incline him towards the pictorial practice. He trained with the Catalan painter Marcet, with whom he worked between 1948 and 1952. In 1956 he began his exhibition career, initially in Galicia and later throughout Spain. In 1972 he won the silver medal at the Biennial of Pontevedra, an event he would attend regularly in subsequent years. He achieved notable public and critical success, which would encourage him to travel to South America, exhibiting in Caracas, for example. His paintings are preserved in numerous private collections in Spain and Caracas, as well as in provincial museums in Galicia.
He devoted himself mainly to the landscape genre, demonstrating a remarkable skill as a draughtsman and a style that is nourished by impressionist and post-impressionist contributions in terms of the use of color and freedom of brushstroke, as can be seen in the work we now present. The delicacy of the chromatic chords, as well as the interest in the atmosphere are two of the main values of this landscape where the alternation of greens, blues, oranges and grays gives depth and beauty to the panorama.
