DESCRIPTION
ED ALBERS (Holland, 1955-2014).
"Maxilla Fetialis", 1990.
Oil, tempera, gel and varnish on canvas.
Signed, titled and dated on the back.
With Fawbush Gallery label.
Size: 244 x 183 cm.
Abstract paintings with biomorphic-looking forms and experiments with light and lighting flood the compositions of Ed Albers, a promising artist whose life was cut short by the fire in the flat where he lived.
Before moving to the United States in 1975, Albers worked as an apprentice in Holland restoring stained glass windows. In America, Albers trained at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC, in 1975. According to a Lehman College biography, his works were exhibited at the Grace Gallery in Washington, the Fawbush Gallery in New York and the Stanford Museum in Connecticut. In 1987 he received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. He died tragically in a fire in his Manhattan flat.
