BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
HENRI HABSCH (1912-1985).
"View of Liège".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Size: 54 x 73 cm.
The painter of this work determines an impressionist image, moving, full of expressiveness and dominated by a lively, almost palpable atmosphere. The drawing is lost, and what is presented in the painting is a fragment of nature recreated by the painting, not a constructed landscape, representing nature as a universal whole, as the classicists did. Here the artist attempts to capture the optical sensation of the landscape, obtained under certain atmospheric and lighting conditions, and plays with the dense masses of vegetation in contrast to the luminosity of the sky.
Henri Habsch was known for his views of Impressionist heritage. He combined his career as a painter with his work as a teacher at the Academy of Art in Liège.
