Victor Mateo, born in Tangier, was artistically formed in Canada, under the influence of the movement known as "Action painting", the American abstract expressionism that emerged from Jackson Pollock and other artists after the Second World War. For Mateo, painting is a tool of expression and transmission of emotions, feelings, instincts, it is the most direct and intuitive medium, because through it the artist's own physicality is transmitted, by means of the brushstroke, the drip, the stain. Mateo leaves aside the superfluous to stay with "the pulse of the gesture", the trace of the artist's existence.
