Maria Antonieta Boullard-Devé offers us in this work the representation of a young woman in a relaxed attitude, asleep in the armchair. The scene is resolved by means of the geometrizing and synthesized treatment.
Trained at the School of Fine Arts in Paris, Marie Antoinette Boullard-Devé had a remarkable artistic career. In the 1920s she resided in Vietnam and held several exhibitions. Among her best known works is the portfolio of lithographs "Vision de l'Indochine" (1926). He was also commissioned for a large frieze for the Exposition Coloniale in Paris in 1931, depicting types from Indochina and French India. In the 1950s, he held exhibitions in Tangier and Paris. He was noted for his contribution to the international appreciation of Vietnamese culture.
