Agustín Bejarano is a leading figure in Cuba's contemporary plastic arts and has also ventured into drawing, illustration, caricature, installations, sculptures and performances. He graduated in Engraving from the Higher Institute of Art in Havana in 1989 and was director of the Camagüey Engraving Workshop. His work is characterized by a "rewriting of genres", often exploring themes such as lack of communication, loneliness and the fragility of human beings in the face of contemporary conflicts. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Cuba and abroad (including Puerto Rico, Mexico, Japan, Switzerland, Spain, Dominican Republic, Canada and the United States) and has received national and international awards.
